We have great ambitions for our students, and for the communities we hope they will work to benefit. Our vision rests with the people who create the environment in which the students live, and who share their knowledge and enthusiasm with them.

We seek colleagues who are:

  • Aligned with the Academies’ vision of developing homegrown leaders who will be able to make a positive societal change.
  • Lifelong learners committed to student-led learning and their own professional development.
  • Open minded and demonstrate our values of pluralism and meritocracy.
  • Enthusiastic about working with young people.
"We are heartened by an important new World Bank study which indicates that it is not the quantity of time or money that leads to educational success, but rather the quality of specific educational experiences. The stimulus provided by extraordinary teachers and exceptional companions is most important."
His Highness the Aga Khan, Mombasa, Kenya, 14 August 2007

Empowering teachers to nurture leaders

Michael Lizotte
Shortly after arriving at the Aga Khan Academy Mombasa campus, I quickly became involved in several student CAS (creativity, activity, service) projects and enrichments programmes like iSEAyou, Beehive Apiary, Cheesemaking and the Fruit Tree project. All these endeavors are noble in themselves as projects but have something greater in common. They are all rooted and based on the ideals of the Sustainable Development Goals by the United Nations (UN). A little background; in 2019 I visited Guinea for the first time. We all know of Guinea as having diverse wildlife and scenic beaches, but what I saw in the streets of the capital were different images. On every street corner, thousands of children, teens and adults were sitting idly. My eyes were opened. I spent that summer, not as planned, instead studying about sustainable development programmes and the UN’s 17 goals for 2030. My personal mission changed that summer and it has been something I try to live by: change only happens if you show solutions, change does not happen by simply talking about it. The Aga Khan Academy Mombasa is a school that practices this mission, more importantly, the students also take the responsibility of this mission. We are here to find and present these solutions, and work together to figure out how to make our world a better place to live for all people. Our students are the fingers of the Academy’s mission who will spread throughout the world to be our future leaders, with knowledge of solutions and the ability to act. Shaping careers

“One unique thing about the Aga Khan Academy Mombasa is its dedication to ensuring that people grow holistically. Working here means being surrounded by individuals – both students and educators, who while being grateful, strive for continuous improvement and growth in different aspects of their lives, leaving one challenged to aspire for more. Joining the Academy almost immediately after university meant that I was quite unsure of my career path, however, the experience has been a defining one for me. Interacting with great educators and engaging with brilliant and inquisitive students at the Academy has ignited in me a passion for education. Having been exposed to different opportunities for International Baccalaureate (IB) educators, I have decided to pursue a graduate degree in education. I have applied and been accepted at the University of the People to pursue a Master of Education in Advanced Teaching in collaboration with IB commencing in January 2021 term. Being at the Academy is the beginning of what I hope will be a long and fulfilling journey in education.” Jackson Ltorisha
