We select a diverse group of students with exceptional academic and leadership potential, offering financial assistance where needed. We offer them a world-class International Baccalaureate (IB) education on a residential campus with outstanding facilities, preparing them to make a positive contribution to society.

The Academy will identify and nurture exceptional young people from any background with the potential to become effective, ethical leaders. Sujana Veeramachaneni: Teacher, Assistant Coordinator, Dorm Parent, Mentor

At AKA Hyderabad, Sujana Veeramachaneni holds more than her official titles of biology teacher and Assistant Coordinator for the Diploma Programme, science teacher for the Middle Years Programme, and dorm parent. Sujana also ensures her students see her as a friend, mentor and pillar of support: “They should always feel that I’m there for them, no matter the situation, or condition or time of day. You have to tailor yourself to the needs of the students... I change myself, as per their needs.”

Yasmin Khan: Mentoring the future leaders of the developing world

When the first Aga Khan Academy opened, it became “a dream” for Yasmin Khan to work at the Academies. Yasmin joined the Academy in October 2016 through the partnership with the Ontario Ministry of Education and has been instilling her legacy of creativity, engagement, and determination ever since.

Our Campus

Built on an 18-acre ocean front campus, the Aga Khan Academy Mombasa is a state-of-the-art facility inspired by Swahili architecture.

Outstanding academic, sports, arts and residential facilities, including:
  • Age and subject-appropriate classrooms;
  • Well-equipped science and robotics laboratories;
  • Library and resource centres;
  • Art studios;
  • Music rooms equipped with a range of instruments;
  • Amphitheatre;
  • Multipurpose hall;
  • Sports facilities (swimming and diving pools, sports field, astroturf field, basketball courts, netball court, squash courts and a children’s play area);
  • Multi-faith prayer room;
  • Commons building, which houses the dining hall and is used for school activities, public lectures and student performances;
  • Residences of six residential houses for residential staff and students and a guest house for visitors.
