Physical activities
A holistic education includes plenty of time for sports and other physical activity. The Aga Khan Academy Hyderabad offers classes and coaching in world-class facilities.
Sports
Students have the chance to try many sports, both competitive and non-competitive. They might train in athletics or join a sports team. In later years they are able to focus on developing expertise in a few areas, taking on leadership and coaching responsibilities. Students at the Aga Khan Academy Hyderabad have access to swimming and diving pools, a gym, and facilities for basketball, cricket, tennis, badminton, volleyball, squash, hockey, athletics and running.

Creating an unbreakable bond with basketball
“When I first came to see the Aga Khan Academy Hyderabad campus, I was astonished to see the facilities available for sports. From football fields to basketball and tennis courts, everything was there and I got so many opportunities to play all the sports I really love to play. Along with the facilities, the Academy has a very passionate and hardworking sports staff who constantly teach us and push us to the limit. All of the coaches have taught us much more than just that particular sport.
I am a part of the Academy’s basketball team and my favourite thing about the sport is playing with different people on the team. The sport also creates an unbreakable bond I can rely on both on and off of the court. Being on a team helps us grow not only as players, but as people too. I personally have strengthened my communication skills since joining the team and have learned that the experience gained from playing the game is the most important thing.
Playing basketball at the Academy has also taught me and my teammates the importance of maintaining a balance between academics and sports. This is emphasised by our coaches who encourage us to work just as hard in the classroom as we do on the court. Overall, I have learned so much through playing basketball at the Academy and am excited to see the new skills I develop through the sport.”

Chasing her dream in the water
“The first time I stepped foot in the Academy was in 2011. In 2011, the Academy did not have all the facilities that it does today. A lot of areas were under construction and we did not have a swimming pool. I remember the swimming pool opened in 2013, when I was in grade 3. My first swimming lesson was very exciting, and since then I have always loved to take a dip. I have been a part of the swim team for the last 7-8 years. Being a part of the team gives me a sense of accomplishment and identity, it makes me feel proud every time I win something, I feel like I am contributing to the school community. I have participated in innumerable inter-school competitions and won over 40 medals. There is always something to learn from each experience at a competition. The Academy has given me endless opportunities to chase my passion. Swimming not just helps me develop as a swimmer, but as an individual. It enables me to have a holistic education. As, I am not just limited to my academics but I can explore my interests and find what I love doing to enrich myself. I am so grateful for having such a kind swimming teacher, who is always motivating me and encouraging me to do my best no matter what the result. I am grateful that the Academy has helped me find my passion and I am sure it can help you find yours too!”
