“Teaching is the profession that makes all other professions possible.”
Since retiring in June 2015, the couple has traveled the world while volunteering in international institutions. Together they have been to nearly twenty different schools in Asia, Africa, Europe and the Middle East – including the Aga Khan Academy Hyderabad. They have been to India four times in the last two years. In October 2017, they will be visiting two schools in West Africa.
Their visit in September 2017 is the second the couple has made to the Academy, the first was in March 2016. “It is always a pleasure to see the wonderful learning community—both students and adults—here at the Academy. The school is truly unique,” Dr. Linda Duevel commented.
During their visit, the educators visited classrooms in both Junior and Senior Schools. Additionally, they worked with faculty members on multiple topics connected with the Academy’s mission and held resource workshops for different groups. Drs. Duevel were also present for Teacher Appreciation Day – a happy coincidence. In assembly, students took the opportunity to thank their teachers for their ongoing support. Drs. Duevel said of the occasion, “It was a lovely experience and the students were so gracious. As we always like to say, “Teaching is the profession that makes all other professions possible.”
