Applying to the Aga Khan Academy Maputo

Students across the Aga Khan Academies are admitted to the Academy based upon their merit, regardless of their ability to pay.

Admission is competitive and based on merit. The process enables your child to demonstrate their cognitive, literary, mathematical, creative and leadership abilities through assessments and an interview.

We admit the best students, regardless of their families’ ability to pay. We aim to offer partial to full financial assistance to accepted students with a demonstrated financial need, to be reviewed annually.

The Application Process

AKA Maputo students a part of the Early Years Programme develop their cognitive skills through different activities inside and outside of the classroom.
Children entering Kindergarten 1 must be three years of age by 31 August of the year of entry. All prospective students must demonstrate the potential for high achievement. Each applicant will participate in a variety of assessment exercises. Children may enter the nursery section without a strong prior knowledge of one of the languages of instruction, English or Portuguese.

Primary Years Programme students at AKA Maputo enhance their critical thinking skills, along with their literacy and numeracy skills through the curriculum.
Children entering Grade 1 should have completed at least three years of nursery school and must be six years of age by 31 August of the year of entry. All prospective students will demonstrate a potential for high academic achievement and show competency in literacy and numeracy. Each applicant from Grades 2-5 will sit a standard assessment in logic, English (reading and writing), mathematics and creativity. Applicants will also have personal interviews with key members of the Junior School staff. Find out more about the Primary Years Programme.

Middle Years Programme students at AKA Maputo use their knowledge from the curriculum and apply it towards community service projects and more.
All students applying for a place in the Senior School must have attained high scholastic achievement in their former educational institutions. They must also demonstrate a keen interest and participation in community service projects outside the classroom and/or extracurricular activities such as sporting activities, clubs, arts and music. Applicants will take a standard assessment test in logic, English, mathematics and problem-solving, and provide past student grade reports and certificates of achievement. They will also have personal interviews with key members of the Senior School staff. We cannot accept new students in the last year of the Middle Years Programme (MYP5/Grade 10). Diploma Programme students at AKA Maputo engage with a challenging curriculum while also being exposed to various opportunities to prepare themselves for university.
Applicants must have command on English language and shall demonstrate outstanding academic achievement as well as a proven record of civic mindedness and participation in community projects. Students will take a standardised assessment test in English, mathematics and logic as well as an interview with IB Diploma Programme coordinators and key members of the Senior School staff. We cannot accept new students in the year of the Diploma exam (DP2). Find out more about the Diploma Programme.
